Curious about how we organize our episodes? Here’s an explanation:
For every episode, we ask ourselves five questions. As we’ve gotten more comfortable behind the mic, you’ll notice we’ve updated a few of these sections. Below are explanations for the most recent batch!
- Top of the Marquee!: What was each of our favorite part? This could be a character, line, scene, setting, etc. Absolutely any aspect about the film that made us think, “I love that!” Wondering what a marquee is and why being at top is at all relevant? Marquee signs are those awesome boards above old movie theaters, and whoever gets “top billing” as the first name above the show title is generally acknowledged as the most important player. See the pic below for reference.

- Wheel of Questions! In Season 1, we had a fun question. Now we have 6! It’s up to the gods of the spin which of the 6 we land on for each episode.
- Waaaaaaaait a minute: How has this movie influenced or been influenced by other movies? This seems like an odd question, but how often do you look at a movie and think, ‘huh, that reminds me of this other movie’? It’s more often than you think and, in our case, there’s a real chance a modern film was inspired by our screened film!
- Ladies, Please Remove Your Hats and Silence Your Cell Phones: How does this film hold up? Watching old movies from a modern perspective will inevitably cause us to look at things that have held up and, of course, that have not. Race and gender tend to be mainstays in this question, but movies have been known to surprise us and, often, we find a movie just as relevant today as it was forty, fifty, sixty years ago. As for the title: requests at the beginning of films in theaters seem to have existed forever. Where cell phones are the annoyance now, apparently big hats were the issue way back when!

- Boom, We Fixed It! This is a newer question but another one we’ve had fun with! It’s just our nature to give the “correct” ending to a film (if the original ending could have been better, which is not always the case). Regardless, there are always those few little tweaks we wish had been made and here is where we vocalize them!
- The Martini Shot: Would you recommend this movie? A simple question that will have a simple answer. Though, as we’ve begun to learn, there are sometimes no simple answers. The term “martini shot” is from the film world: it’s the last shot of the day, since the next shot will be… well… an actual shot from a glass.
And there you have it, the random questions we’ve decided to go with in order to put some structure to our episodes. They may stay the same, they may change, they may be added to. Who knows! Stick around to find out but, in the meantime, check out our newest episode wherever you find podcasts!
